Pyrazinamide
Description
Pyrazinamide is an antitubercular medicine which helps to treat tuberculosis and reduces the spread of infection. It should be taken with other medicines to prevent the spread of infection. This medicine is not recommended in patients with liver impairment or acute gout.

General warnings
Impaired liver function
This medicine may cause liver injury. The baseline of liver function tests should be obtained before initiating the treatment. Any signs of elevated liver enzymes should be reported to the doctor.
Diabetes
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with diabetes. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is necessary. Any signs of altered glucose levels should be reported to the doctor.
Drug-resistance
Usage of Pyrazinamide without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that is drug resistant.
Impaired kidney function
This medicine is excreted through kidneys. The concentration of this medicine may increase in patients with impaired kidney function. The dose should be adjusted based on the CrCl.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Pyrazinamide, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.
