Description
Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Nebivolol. It is an anti-hypertensive medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels and improves blood flow, thus it lowers your blood pressure. This will also reduce the risk of having a heart attack or a stroke by making it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet shows some common side effects like swelling in your ankles or feet, headache, constipation, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and diarrhoea. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose will depend on your blood pressure. If you forget to take a dose of this medicine, then skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose instead. Do not stop the treatment abruptly as it can cause unwanted side effects. Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it. This medicine is not recommended if you have severe liver and heart problems as it can worsen your condition. If you have any pre-existing kidney and liver problems, or other medical conditions, inform your doctor about them. You should tell your doctor about all the medications and supplements you are taking as this medicine can interact with them and can cause side effects. Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended in children below 18 years, if you are pregnant, or are breastfeeding unless prescribed by your doctor.

Allergy

Avoid taking Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet if you have a known allergy to Nebivolol, and other medicines used for heart conditions (beta-blockers, Amlodipine, or other calcium channel blockers). This could lead to symptoms like redness, swelling, breathing difficulty, hives (painful eruptions that itch and sting), etc.

Severe liver impairment

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in people with severe liver problems. This medicine is broken down and absorbed in the liver. Taking this medicine while you have a pre-existing liver problem may damage your liver further and worsen your condition.

Heart Failure

Heart failure is a condition in which your heart muscle is unable to pump sufficient amount of blood throughout the body. Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should not be used in people having heart failure. This medicine weakens the contractions of your heart and slows down the heart rate. Using this medicine when you already have heart failure could lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure and reduced blood flow to the organs, which could be fatal.

Heart diseases

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you have any heart problems. This includes heart block greater than first degree (a condition where the heartbeats are slow or abnormal), cardiogenic shock (a condition where your heart can't pump enough blood to your body), sick sinus syndrome (inability to create an adequate heart rate by the heart's natural pacemaker), sinus bradycardia (slow heartbeat), etc. This medicine weakens the contractions of your heart and reduces your blood pressure. Using it while you have heart problems will worsen your condition.

Lung disease

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in people with lung problems such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, a condition where airflow from the lungs is obstructed) as this medicine has the potential to cause bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways in your lungs). Using this medicine while you have pre-existing lung problems can worsen your condition.

General warnings

Coronary artery diseases

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have coronary artery diseases (a condition where the blood vessels of your heart are damaged, mainly due to build-up of plaque). It may weaken the contractions of your heart and slows down the heart rate, which may further depress cardiac output (amount of blood pumped by the heart in a minute) and blood pressure. Your doctor will suggest tests to closely monitor your heart function while you are on treatment with this medicine.

Major surgery

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet can interact with anaesthesia and excessively lower the blood pressure. Furthermore, this medicine also affects the working of the heart, which is not suitable for a major surgery. Consult your doctor before undergoing any surgery while you are on this medication. Your doctor may replace this medicine with another suitable medicine as required.

Hyperthyroidism

Abrupt withdrawal of Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet can lead to thyrotoxicosis (an excess of thyroid hormone in the body) and thyroid storm (severe complications of untreated hyperthyroidism). To minimize this risk, your doctor will slowly stop this medicine by reducing the dose over a period of 1 to 2 weeks.

Peripheral vascular diseases

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have peripheral vascular diseases (blood circulation problems) as it weakens the contractions of your heart and slows down the heart rate which may further depress cardiac output (amount of blood pumped by the heart in a minute) and blood pressure. Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly monitor your heart function while you are on this medication. He may also adjust the dose as necessary.

Hypotension

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you have hypotension (low blood pressure) as it has the potential to lower your blood pressure even further. Also, if you have any condition that can cause volume depletion (excess loss of salt and fluid from the body due to severe vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, kidney problems) or if you are being treated with high doses of diuretics (medicines that increase the production of urine), avoid taking this tablet as it will worsen your condition further.

Impaired liver function

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have severe liver damages. This medicine is absorbed in the liver. Using it while your liver is already damaged will lead to the accumulation of this medicine inside your liver. This could increase the risk of hepatotoxicity (toxic liver damage) which could lead to liver failure as well.

Use in children

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Impaired kidney function

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have severe kidney problems. This medicine is excreted from your kidneys and using it while you have pre-existing kidney damage will lead to the accumulation of this medicine in your kidneys. This may increase the risk of toxicity and kidney failure. Your doctor will suggest tests to monitor your kidney functions regularly. He will also adjust the dose as necessary.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take the dose of Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet at a given time, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor. If you have intentionally or accidentally consumed more than the prescribed amount of Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet, contact your doctor immediately for further guidance.

Diabetes

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have diabetes as it may mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) such as tremors, tachycardia (increased heart rate) and blood pressure changes. Your doctor may advise you to closely monitor your blood sugar levels while you are on treatment with this medicine.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the intraocular pressure (pressure inside your eyeball) is abnormally high. It causes gradual loss of vision and eventual blindness. Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be taken with caution if you are taking medicines to treat glaucoma as this medicine may further lower the pressure within your eyes.

Hyperlipidaemia

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have hyperlipidaemia (high levels of fat in the blood). This medicine is known to alter the cholesterol levels in the blood. Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly check your cholesterol levels. He may also adjust the dose of this medicine as required.

Myasthenia Gravis

Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have Myasthenia gravis (rapidly developing weakness in your muscles) as it may increase muscle weakness along with certain symptoms such as visual disturbances and generalized weakness. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Phaeochromocytoma

Phaeochromocytoma is a tumour in your adrenal glands (a small gland located above the kidney responsible for producing certain hormones). Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have phaeochromocytoma (tumour present on the adrenal gland) since it may suddenly increase the blood pressure. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Food interactions
Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet as grapefruit juice can increase the absorption of this medicine in your blood. This could lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure or worsen side effects.
Using Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet together with multivitamins containing minerals may decrease the effects of this medicine. Separate the time of intake for Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet and multivitamins by at least 2 hours.

Lifestyle modification, eating a balanced diet, and exercising regularly will help you to have better control over your blood pressure. Avoid taking grapefruit juice with Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet as it can increase the risk of side effects. Using Nodon Am (5/5 mg) Tablet together with multivitamins containing minerals may decrease the effects of this medicine. Keep a two-hour gap between the intake of both medicines. Be careful while standing up from a sitting or lying down position as this medicine may sometimes cause a sudden drop in your blood pressure, which can make you dizzy. This medicine causes swelling in your ankles and feet, so try raising your legs when you are sitting. Consult a doctor if this swelling worries you. This medicine may cause dizziness so try to avoid activities that require mental focus like driving and operating machines.
