Mometasone

Description

Mometasone is a medicine available in topical forms (cream/ointment/gel/lotion) and as nasal sprays. The topical forms are used to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis (itchy skin with red scaly patches), eczema (thick, dry and itchy skin), and dermatitis (skin irritation). Mometasone nasal spray is used to prevent and relieve symptoms of hay fever and other allergies such as sneezing, runny, stuffy, or itchy nose. It is also used to treat nasal polyps (painless growth or swelling in the nose or sinuses). It works by blocking the release of chemical substances in your body. Mometasone nasal spray shows side effects like headache, nose/throat irritation, blood in the mucous, unexplained nosebleed, etc. Mometasone topical forms may show side effects like burning sensation, irritation, itching, and redness at the site of application. Inform your doctor if these side effects persist or become severe. Mometasone is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have any other medical conditions or taking any other medicines. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding before using this medicine.

Ocular Toxicities

Rarely, Mometasone may increase the intraocular pressure (high pressure inside the eye caused by an imbalance in the production and drainage of fluid in the eye) and cause glaucoma (a condition where the pressure within the eyeballs is abnormally high that can damage the optic nerve and lead to loss of vision).
