Mela 2.5 mg Tablet is a diuretic which is used to control blood pressure, edema (swelling), and fluid retention. It should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Frequent monitoring of blood pressure and electrolytes level is necessary while taking this medicine.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to metolazone.

Anuria

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a condition called anuria (a condition where the kidney is unable to produce urine).

Severe liver impairment

Mela 2.5 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of severe liver impairment due to the increased risk of hepatic coma and pre-coma. It is not recommended for use in patients with hepatic coma or pre-coma due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

This medicine is recommended for use in pregnant women only when necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.
General warnings

Hepatic dysfunction

Mela 2.5 mg Tablet should be used with extreme caution in patient's suffering from liver diseases due to an increase in the risk of serious adverse effects including coma. Close monitoring of liver function is advised while taking this medicine. Report any symptoms of confusion or jaundice to the doctor on priority.

Volume and electrolyte depletion

Mela 2.5 mg Tablet may alter the blood volume levels and electrolyte levels. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance. Close monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is necessary while taking this medicine. Report any symptoms such as weakness, lethargy, muscle pain, drowsiness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, etc. to the doctor immediately.

Renal diseases

Mela 2.5 mg Tablet may cause Azotemia in patients with a known history of a severe renal disease. Close monitoring of kidney function is necessary while taking this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments should be done based on the renal function of the patient.

Missed Dose

If a dose of Mela 2.5 mg Tablet is missed, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Diabetes

Mela 2.5 mg Tablet may increase the blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is necessary for such patients. Suitable dose adjustments for the antidiabetic medicines or Mela 2.5 mg Tablet may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Hyperuricemia

Mela 2.5 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with a history of gout or chronic renal failure due to the increased risk of hyperuricemia. Close monitoring of uric acid level is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
