Description
Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet is a combination of Hydrochlorothiazide and Losartan. This medicine is used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet decreases blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels, which promotes smooth blood flow and also increases water excretion from your body. Therefore, this medicine also reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet has some side effects like nausea, headache, dry mouth, and an upset stomach. Due to the action of this medicine, you may experience frequent urination while taking this medicine, and it is not a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids while taking medicine to overcome muscle weakness, dry mouth, and extreme thirst. Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness, therefore avoid driving vehicles or operating machines. Rise slowly from sitting or lying position if you feel dizzy while on Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet treatment. If any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get worse, seek a doctor's consultation at the earliest. Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to it. Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet can be taken in the morning to avoid frequent urination at night. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes. Frequent monitoring of your heart, liver, kidney functions and electrolytes levels may be required to use this medicine safely. Allergy

Avoid taking Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet if you are previously allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.

Anuria

Anuria is a condition where the kidney is unable to produce urine. Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet should be avoided for use in patients with anuria due to adverse effects.

Aliskiren

Use of Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet together with Aliskiren in the elderly population with diabetes and kidney disease may not give desired effect rather causes major side effects. Hence avoid using it.

Kidney disease

Do not take Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet if you have a severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 ml/min) due to the increased risk of worsening of compromised kidneys.

Liver disease

Do not use Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice (a condition of reduced bile flow from the liver to the small intestine) or liver disorders associated with prior use of this medicine.

General warnings

Volume and electrolyte depletion

Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet may alter the electrolyte levels in some patients having kidney and liver diseases. Close monitoring of blood pressure and electrolyte levels is recommended for such patients.

Kidney diseases

There may be increased levels of urea (Azotemia) in your blood when Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet is used in severe renal diseased patients. Close monitoring of kidney function is necessary while taking this medicine.

Hypotension

Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet may cause symptomatic hypotension in some patients with volume depletion or those treated with high dose diuretics. Hence, better to start the treatment at reduced doses.

Hyperkalemia

Hyperkalemia (a condition with an increase in the potassium levels in the blood) is one of the side effects of Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet. Hence, maintain caution in patients using potassium-containing supplements or medicines.

Use in children

Do not use Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet in children due to the lack of the safety and efficacy of use.

Primary hyperaldosteronism

Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet may not be effective in treating primary hyperaldosteronism patients. Hence avoid treating such patients with this medicine.

Driving or operating machines

Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness and a decrease in blood pressure. Avoid performing any activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating machines.

Missed Dose

If you missed a dose of Losarpen H (12.5/50 mg) Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the next dose timing is near, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at your usual time. Do not double the dose.

Overdose
