Description
Kefclav 50 DT Tablet is a combination medicine used to treat a variety of conditions such as urinary tract infections, ear infections and lung infections caused by bacteria. This medicine is not recommended for use in children less than 10 years of age.

General warnings

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Discontinue the use of this medicine as per the doctor's instructions if severe diarrhea occurs after receiving this medicine. This medicine may cause an imbalance in the microbial flora of the large intestine, decreasing the gut-friendly bacteria and promoting the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in severe diarrhea.

Bleeding disorders

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from bleeding disorders due to the increased risk of excessive bleeding. Regular monitoring of prothrombin time is necessary in such cases. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Drug resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

How it works
Cefixime works by interfering with certain processes that help the bacteria to grow and increase in number. Clavulanic acid is effective against a specific species of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotic medicines. Thus, the combination becomes effective against an extended range of bacteria.
