Description
Glycovas LD Tablet is a combination medicine used for the treatment of patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. Patients are advised to follow a strict exercise and diet regimen along with this medicine to get the best possible effect. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age.

Metabolic Acidosis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with metabolic acidosis since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Liver disease

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with active liver diseases indicated by high levels of transaminases since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Diabetic ketoacidosis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Type I Diabetes mellitus

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from Type I diabetes mellitus since it is not effective in treating this condition

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. General warnings

Stress

Use of this medicine should be discontinued in patients exposed to stressful conditions such as a fever, trauma, surgeries, or accidents since it may not be effective in controlling blood sugar levels in these conditions. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered under your doctor's supervision.

Diarrhea

This medicine may cause diarrhea when therapy is initiated. In most cases, diarrhea subsides by itself. Contact your doctor if the problem persists for longer durations. Therapy may need to be discontinued in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Cognitive impairment

This medicine may cause forgetfulness, memory loss, confusion, etc. in some patients. These side effects are reversible and usually disappear once the medicine is discontinued.

Muscle degradation and Rhabdomyolysis

This medicine may cause muscle breakdown and rhabdomyolysis in some patients, a condition which can be fatal. This may cause symptoms such as severe tiredness and weakness. This risk is especially higher in the elderly population and in patients with kidney diseases, hypothyroidism, and active muscle disorders. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Stroke

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients recovering from a stroke since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Hypoglycemia

This medicine may cause hypoglycemia in some patients. This risk is especially higher in patients suffering from kidney diseases, malnourishment, pituitary gland diseases, etc. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended for such patients. Appropriate dose adjustments may be required based on the clinical condition. Your doctor may advise you to carry a sugar candy to counteract the effects of low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).

Fluid Retention and Edema

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with fluid retention and edema due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Weight gain

This medicine may cause a mild to moderate weight gain in some patients.

Change of medicines

You may experience some temporary side effects if there is a change in the current medications used for diabetes mellitus. This overlapping effect is because of the change from one medicine to another. Close monitoring of blood sugar levels is recommended in these cases.

Use in pediatrics

This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Lactic Acidosis

This medicine may cause lactic acidosis, which may be fatal, in some patients. Missed Dose

Hypoglycemia

Hemolytic Anemia/G6PD Deficiency

Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with this medicine due to the increased risk of adverse effects such as dizziness, muscle pain, fever and chills, headache, swelling of hands and feet, vomiting, skin rash, etc.

How it works
Metformin decreases absorption of glucose from the intestines and increases the action of insulin in the body. Glimepiride increases the secretion of insulin from the pancreas and also regulates the release of glucose from the liver. Atorvastatin reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood. This combination is thus effective in treating both diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia.
