Description
FASTCLAV 125MG DRY SYRUP is a combination medicine used for treating a variety of bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, and uncomplicated skin infections. This medicine is not recommended for use in infants less than 3 months of age.

General warnings

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Discontinue the use of this medicine as per the doctor's instructions if severe diarrhea occurs after receiving this medicine. This medicine may cause an imbalance in the microbial flora of the large intestine, decreasing the gut-friendly bacteria and promoting the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in severe diarrhea.

Impaired kidney function

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a pre-existing kidney disease due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Drug-resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Use in pediatrics

This medicine is not recommended for use in infants less than 3 months of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction

This medicine may cause Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction in some patients when used for more than 7 days. The symptoms of this reaction may include fever, chills, headache, low blood pressure, increased heart rate, etc. This reaction is usually self-limiting and subsides with the resolution of infection.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Colitis

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients having a history of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis, since it may worsen the patient's condition. Report any incidence of severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stools, etc. to the doctor immediately. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Liver Disease

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver diseases or a family history of liver diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of liver function is recommended during treatment with this medicine. Report any undesired effects to the doctor on priority. Seizure disorders

How it works
Cefuroxime works by interfering with the bacterial cell wall formation. Clavulanic acid is effective against a specific species of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotic medicines. Thus, the combination becomes effective against an extended range of bacteria.
