Description
Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet is a heart medicine that contains Metoprolol. It is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina pectoris (chest pain caused when your heart muscle does not get enough oxygen-rich blood), and arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet helps in preventing heart attack (a blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle) and stroke (damage to the brain from interruption of its blood supply). Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet works by reducing the rate and force of the contractions of your heart. Thus it decreases high blood pressure. Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet may cause side effects like headache, breathing difficulty, low blood pressure, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist for a longer time. This medicine may also cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine. Do not take Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet if you are allergic to it. Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet should be taken with food or immediately after food. For the ease of remembering, take this medicine around the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor. Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet may interact with other medicines. Hence, inform your doctor about your complete medical history including medical conditions if any. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding before taking Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below 6 years of age.

Allergy

Bradycardia

Bradycardia or slow heart rate occurs when your heart beats less than 60 times per minute. Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet is not recommended to treat a slow heart rate.

Second or third-degree heart block

Heart block is a condition that occurs when the signals that control your heart are slowed down. Heart block is of three stages named as first, second, or third-degree. First-degree heart block is the least severe, second-degree heart block is severe and can often progress to third-degree heart block, the most severe form. Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet is not recommended to treat second or third-degree heart block that requires emergency attention.

Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. It passes into breast milk in very low levels that are not expected to cause any side effects in breastfed infants. However, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
General warnings

Major surgery

Use Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet with caution if you are planning to undergo major surgery.

Sports

Athletes are advised not to indulge in certain sports while using Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet. Archery, racing, shooting, and other high-risk sports should be avoided. If you are actively involved in sports, you are advised to refer to the list of medicines published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that are not to be taken while participating in certain sports events.

Use in children

Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age since the safety and efficacy data are not available.

Driving or operating machines

Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet may cause dizziness and fatigue in some people. Do not drive vehicles or operate machines after taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Do not skip any dose of Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet. If you forget to take a dose of Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet, seek immediate medical attention.

Asthma/ COPD

Use Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet with caution if you have a respiratory condition such as asthma (a condition in which a person's airways become inflamed, narrow and swell and produce extra mucus, which makes it difficult to breathe) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD; a group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it difficult to breathe). Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet can cause shortness of breath and also worsen other respiratory symptoms.

Diabetes

Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet can mask the symptoms of low blood sugar if you have diabetes. Your doctor may suggest tests to monitor your blood sugar levels while on treatment with this medicine.

Liver Disease

Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have a liver problem. This medicine breaks down in your liver and is excreted through urine. Using this medicine while you have pre-existing liver troubles can further worsen your condition.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma or high eye pressure occurs when the nerve connecting the eye to the brain is damaged. Take Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet with caution if you have such a condition as it may increase the risk of mydriasis (a condition in which the pupil of the eye gets widened due to increased eye pressure).

Hyperlipidaemia

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition in which there are high levels of fat or cholesterol in the blood. Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet can increase the cholesterol levels in your blood. Hence use Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet with caution.
Food interactions
Multivitamins with minerals may reduce the effectiveness of Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet when used together. Take Etosort-XL-12.5 Tablet 2 hours before taking multivitamins with minerals.
