Cinitapride

Description

Cinitapride is a medicine used to increase the movement of food in your stomach and intestine. It is used to treat Gastroesophageal reflux disease (a condition in which stomach acid flows back into the food pipe, causing heartburn and discomfort), indigestion, and gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying). It works by increasing the production of a chemical messenger that improves the motility of your stomach and intestine. This enhances the movement of food in your body. This medicine is available in tablet form (tablet, and tablet ER). Cinitapride shows some common side effects like headache, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. This medicine can also cause diarrhoea (loose stools), which may lead to dehydration. Hence, drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. These side effects are temporary and resolve with time. However, it is advised to consult your doctor if the side effects persist or do not go away. Cinitapride is usually taken 15 minutes before each meal. It is suggested to take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Do not self-medicate as this can lead to certain complications. Cinitapride is not recommended if you have gastrointestinal bleeding (a condition in which bleeding occurs in your food pipe, stomach, or intestine), obstruction (blockage in your intestine), and perforation (hole in the wall of stomach or intestine). Inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver, heart disease, or any other medical conditions as this will help your doctor to plan the treatment accordingly. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as this medicine may not be safe during pregnancy and for the infant.
