Description
Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is a combination medicine that consists of Amlodipine and Telmisartan. It is used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Hypertension is a condition in which the force exerted by the blood against your blood vessel walls is high. This condition may lead to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, etc. This medicine relaxes your blood vessels, heart muscles and decreases your blood pressure. Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet shows common side effects like headache, stomach upset, diarrhoea and weakness. This medicine may also cause dizziness, drowsiness or confusion. Do not indulge in work that requires mental focus if you feel dizzy or drowsy. Most of these side effects do not need medical attention and resolve with time. However, if any of these symptoms persist for a long time or worsen, consult your doctor at the earliest. Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is recommended to be with or without food. Take this medicine at the dose decided by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose based on your clinical condition. Do not self medicate or stop on your own even if you feel better. Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Avoid drinking alcohol while on treatment with this medicine as it may further decrease your blood pressure. Inform your doctor about any medical conditions that you may have, like diabetes and heart, liver and kidney problems, before taking this medicine. Your doctor will regularly monitor your heart function and blood pressure while you are on this medication.

Allergy

Do not take Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet if you are allergic to any of the components present in this medicine. Seek medical attention if you notice allergic reactions such as skin rash, hives (painful eruptions that itch and sting), swelling (face, lips, tongue, etc.), breathing difficulty, etc.

Severe kidney disease

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is excreted through the kidneys. Taking Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you have kidney problems, as it may accumulate in the kidneys leading to other undesirable effects and may further worsen your condition.

Aliskiren

Aliskiren is a first-line medicine used in the treatment of hypertension. Taking Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet and aliskiren together is not recommended as it may lead to kidney damage, increase in your blood pressure and hyperkalaemia (high potassium levels in the blood). This may cause other undesirable effects such as irregular heartbeat, muscle paralysis, heart attack, etc. This risk is especially higher in the elderly population and in people with diabetes and kidney problems.

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in pregnancy as it may cause death or altered body part development in the foetus. Discuss all the potential benefits and risks with your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is known to pass into breastmilk. It may alter the heart function of your infant. Consult your doctor regarding the continuation of this medicine while you are breastfeeding.
General warnings

Hypotension

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you have hypotension (low blood pressure) as it will further decrease your blood pressure which can be dangerous. Also, if you are taking diuretics (water pills) or are being treated for volume depletion (loss of fluids in the body due to severe diarrhoea/vomiting, burns, kidney problems, etc), this medicine is not suitable for you. .

Use in children

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age because the safety and efficacy data is not available.

Hyperkalemia

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet may increase the potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia). This may cause serious side effects such as cardiac rhythm irregularities(changes in the heartbeat). It is advised that you avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (ACE inhibitors and potassium supplements) during treatment with this medicine.

Renal artery stenosis

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have renal artery stenosis (narrowing or blockage of blood vessels that carry blood to the kidneys) as it may cause uncontrolled high blood pressure, altered kidney function, water retention and swelling of the body (majorly in limbs). Your kidney function and clinical condition will be closely monitored by your doctor while on medication with this tablet.

Primary aldosteronism

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use if you have primary aldosteronism (condition of your adrenal gland leading to excess secretion of aldosterone that causes high blood pressure) as this medicine is not effective in treating high blood pressure in such conditions.

Aortic stenosis

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have aortic stenosis (narrowing or blockage of the aortic valve that regulates blood flow in the chambers of the heart) due to the increased risk of low blood pressure. You will be advised to closely monitor your blood pressure.

Driving and operating machines

Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness or drowsiness. It is advised that you do not perform activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet as soon as you remember. If the time for your next dose is near, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Overdose of this medicine may cause dizziness, decreased heart rate and vasodilation (dilation of blood vessels). Seek emergency medical help if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet.

Congestive heart failure

Congestive heart failure is a condition in which the heart does not pump enough blood to meet the demands of your body. Taking Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet in this condition may increases the risk of a heart attack. Your heart function will be closely monitored by your doctor in such conditions.

Coronary artery disease

Coronary artery disease is a condition in which there is an insufficient blood supply to your heart due to narrowing or blockage of blood vessels (coronary artery). Taking Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet may cause severe hypotension (low blood pressure). Your heart function will be closely monitored by your doctor in such conditions.
Food interactions
Taking Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet with grapefruit juice is not recommended as grapefruit increases the absorption of this medicine in your body. This may lead to an increased risk of severe side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet, etc.
It is recommended to avoid a high potassium diet during treatment with Calchek T (5/80 mg) Tablet due to the increased risk of serious side effects. You may ask your doctor for a diet regimen that you can follow while using this medicine.

How it works
