I love the approach she has for her patients.\nShe praises me for every small step I take towards recovery, doesn't dismiss or invalidate my feelings, doesn't preach, and doesn't 'tell me what to do' and instead suggests alternative ways in which I can help myself towards recovery, which is exactly what a professional in this field should do.\nShe understands that meds work for some people and they don't for others, which is why she makes sure that everytime she prescibes me a new med, if it's working or not and changes them accordingly. \nShe prioritises her patients over whatever their family has to say and I feel that that's something very rarely found in Indian medical Field. She has a progressive and liberal mindset which makes it easy for me to open up to her about literally anything.\nI remember visiting her 10 months ago, when my mental health was so bad, getting out of bed felt like chore. To start with - let me tell you that I never ever imagined I'll ever fall into anxiety or depression which is in reality the extreme mental state one could possibly be in, or think of.

It all started with a panic attack and then another within a month and another, which for me had no end at that time - all due to my overthinking, compulsive thoughts and behaviors' which took shape of a deadly fear that was always taking a toll on me as if it was the end of my life, something is going to happen really bad, and I may have a life-threatening disease/ condition. These thoughts were actually out of my control and only the people who suffer from it can understand how bad it is.

Initially, I thought things will improve over the course of time and I kept finding an escape from getting any professional help. But very soon I realized that I need some expert to bring me out of this phase, and finally I decided to go for it since there was nothing to lose considering the compromised quality of life I was dealing with. The real me was deep down buried inside and what I became as a result of continuous fear was a man haunted by almost everything in this beautiful world.

One fine day I found Dr. Akanksha on Practo and got an appointment - I can still remember the very first day I met her. Just by looking at me she found out everything about my condition before I could even tell her all, and that's the way she is - an expert in mental health who can cut down your mental worries by half just by talking to you for a few minutes during a consultation.

As a person she is very humble, ever smiling, and soft-spoken with a really caring approach towards her patients. She prescribed me with light supportive medication (and not anti-depressants) combined with weekly talk therapy sessions. The entire regime worked as a wonder and my quality of life improved month by month.

In the first 1-2 months it looked quite difficult to me but I decided to not lose hope and continue, while putting all the trust in her approach towards my case. Month by month I started feeling the change and gradually 6 months passed by and I was normal again with almost zero withdrawal difficulties.

I am now the same person I used to be and really thankful to her for making it possible. I actually have got a loss of words now to explain what change she made into my life when all the hope was lost.

She is one of the most patient, and soft spoken doctor I have met.During my consultation with her, I felt I was genuinely being heard and it felt like she understood what is it that I am going through.She did not rush to prescribe medication, instead she listened my whole case (and by whole, I mean every aspect to it, and I had a lot to unpack) and then, keeping my needs in mind, prescribed the medication. Super fun and friendly to interact with. Felt really comfortable in sharing my case history with her. She also happens to have a good sense of humor which really helped me to break the ice and be open about my situation.By the end of the session, I really felt that I have someone to help me navigate through the matters of the mind and really made me feel that it's okay.
