Simultaneously, he was also appointed as a Lecturer in Cardiology at the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, Kolkata, which is a Postgraduate Medical College affiliated to West Bengal Health University. Since 2004, he has been a Professor in the Cardiology Division of the Department of Medicine of this College.From February 2010, Dr. Kumar has been appointed Chief Co-ordinator of Academic Services (Cardiology) at Rabindranath Tagore Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS), Kolkata and also In-charge of DNB (Cardiology), Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology (PGDCC-IGNOU) Courses.Dr. Kumar is presently attached as Consultant Cardiologist at Fortis Hospital, Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, and Sri Aurobindo Seva Kendra.
