Dr. Sharmishtha Patra

Someone below has shared billing related issue - am sharing my personal experience. We had a baby boy delivered under Ma'am supervision. She provided the bill as requested, however, the insurance company wanted a different format on her letter head. I approached her and she gave me what the insurance company had asked for without the slightest hesitation, infact she asked me what do you want me to write. Besides being a great doctor she is a very nice person. Lastly, I admit the wait time is a bit on the higher side but I guess it is true for all top doctors and is totally worth the time.

Wait time is something that we may or may not complain coz when it’s our turn we want the doctor to spend more time with us getting all our question answered. Unfortunately we do not think the same when someone else is inside. I am in USA since last 4 years and carrying my second baby wish I could have Dr. Sharmishtha Patra again.

My wife (S Sen) visited Mrs Patra for pregnancy checkups during Oct 2016-Jan 2017. We read a lot of reviews on her in internet and selected her out of best of the doctors in Kolkata. This was my wife's first pregnancy and I wanted everything to be perfect.

During the pregnancy my wife had some complexities which Mrs Patra handled well and we both can’t thank enough for saving our first child from being miscarriaged.

That said, I would not focus on her medical skillset for this review.

What made us switch to another Gynaecologist is her behavior and extreme professionalism.

We are educated and working for reputed MNCs. We do understand if things explained to us and we deserve to be explained as we have experienced with doctors outside India. Mrs Patra never explains things to patients. NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING can be put as a justification like "Doctors professionalism restricts us from sharing etc..." In India people are not highly educated and Doctors do abstract things while sharing - I understand that part but hello! you aren't dealing with un-educated people here. If asked you get an answer like "lets see". **** **** ***** ** ** ** *** ***** **** **** *** *** ****** ******* * ***** ** ******* ******** ** *********** *** ************ You need to understand that during pregnancy related complexities women become very tensed of the situation. A few comforting words from a reputed Gyno can work like magic. *** **** **** ***** *** ******

Patients normally get a window of 01:00-2:30 mins with her. Whatever questions you have you need to ask her within that window. During our visits we felt like queuing at the Railway counter for tickets. You need to wait for an hour or two, all you get is that 1-2 mins window and then you are thrown out of the window. Yes thrown out! A few times I remember while finishing up (my wife was still trying to ask a few questions and I was putting documents in my backpack) she said "could you pls arrange your documents outside" and showed us the door by hand gesture.

Every single time I visited her with my wife, while driving back home, my wife used to cry. I used to comfort her saying she is such a great doctor, so much reputations - cant be wrong. Guess what, one day we switched to a another doc just for test and we found her a way better "person". She might not be a better gynaecologist than Mrs Patra but way better as a human being. And who do you need Mrs Patra? Human or Money?

Very BAD experience..

I visited to Dr. Sharmishtha Patra to consult for the subserious uterine fibroid I am having in the anterior wall. By looking at the USG report, she told me to get admitted to Apollo (after my next monthly cycle) and to have the operation immediately.

She also said that as the fibroid is quite large (10cm x9cm x9cm) , laparoscopy won’t be possible and I have to undergo a C-section.

When I asked if it involves any risk, she said – No risk at all.

Also I asked the recovery time , she mentioned 3 weeks..Whereas, in the real scenario, a c-section takes approx. 2 months to heal (as I have belly fat). ** * ******* *** ****** ******* ******* *** ******** *******

Moreover, I had consulted 3 other doctors.. who had clearly mentioned me the risk of this operation. As I have not yet conceived, this kind of operation may hamper the uterus a lot. There will always be a concern, like, for heavy bleeding, uterus may need to get removed fully.

And a subserous fibroid is always benign and it must not be disturbed unless it is creating other problems on adjacent organs/ urinary tracts etc. So, my fibroid can be treated with medicine and no need of operation as of now.

The kind of rush she was trying to give me. I found her quite unprefessional *** * ***** ******** ********* *** ** *** *** ** * ***** ** *********

I am attaching my prescription herewith to prove it is not a forged review (as she has tried to prove for other negative feedback).

The process for getting appointments is not at all acceptable.

I took an appointment over phone,then on the day of appointment I went early 9am ( doctor starts fron 10:30am) and did an entry on the log book kept on the clinic. After 2 hrs when it was my turn I was said that my booking is not confirmed and Doctor will not check. When I reuested Dr Sharmishtha Patra that there was some glitch in the booking system and my name was not there she replied exactly " Dont wast e my time " .I was shocked with such a rude behaviour .I had to leave the clinic immediately.

Furthermore on 10th feb I did and appointment with the same doctor and got my wife check up.But when I asked for the consultation fee receipt she said tht the receipt book is finished. After me there were 15 more patients .I even checked with other patients they aslo say that she tells the same for receipts. We need these receipts so that we can claim it This also a bad practice.

The most unprofessional doctor I have ever met when my wife Chhanda's pregnancy was at the initial stage back in October 2016. We had travelled from Bangalore to Calcutta for the festival season just a day after we came to know about my wife's pregnancy. We had visited the doctor as suggested by one relative. Never knew what was in store for us. As soon as we informed the doctor that we would be travelling back to Bangalore at the end of the vacation she became furious and started shouting at us. She tried her best to frighten us that even air travel could be harmful during pregnancy, especially at the early stages. In that case I would say, is there any moment in life safe at all, Ms. Patra? Anyway, nothing could explain her misbehavior at us apart from the fact that she was going to lose one 'customer'. A big no for this doctor.

We went to her chamber after seeing all the reviews in the internet. We went thrice. First two days she was ok, but may be its our bad luck, on the third day she was not able to concentrate at all. She tried to perform a test which according to me was not logical. At last she wrote the exactly same prescription as the last time suggesting the same tests. no conclusive answers to our queries even after three visits and various tests suggested by her. ******* *** *** ********** May be for the delivery patients she is dependable but she needs to put more effort for complicated cases.Later I called her, she did not take the call and messaged me that she will call back to answer my queries but unfortunately no answer till now.

I had a wonderful experience ...Doctor was very patient, gentel and professional.Only one suggestion I have .It would b better if patients and their attendants can be made to sit in a more comfortable and cooler place... The open varanda with few plastic chairs is not sufficient..Many male attendants were standing outside under tree shade in this extreme heat...Also there should be some arrangement of cold water to drink...As the water patients carry becomes very hot by the time their turn comes....Rest it would be great if patients get the chance to the the doctor on the time mentioned in their appointment slip..... Waiting in the hot open veranda makes it difficult for expecting mother's....Thanks...

My wife had pain and bleeding during her periods and was recommended by her lady doctor Dr Parvati to get a check up by Dr S.Patra in Apollo Hospitals, Dr Patra examined her and did the needful, she was very courteous and answered all our doubts and made my wife feel at ease, by the way my wife is very afraid of operations, it has gone now 3 years and she is not suffering any more, thanks to Dr Sharmista Patra. Now my 18 year old daughter is having pain in her stomach and she has been recommended to see Dr S Patra, my wife is taking our daughter alone and she is very confident that our daughter's problem will be solved.

We immediately realised that it was the best decision taken. Her care for the patient is exceptional, something that immediately stood out given our experience with some other doctors. Right through my wife's pregnancy, she guided us at every step. Finally on Nov 8, we got our gift from God, all thanks to our wonderful doctor. We would recommend her any day to anyone. Thank you doctor for everything you did for us.
