Dr. Shah completed his graduation (MBBS) and post-graduation (MS in General Surgery) From RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, in 1989 and 1998 respectively. He subsequently went to the United Kingdom and worked as an MCh (Ortho) trainee in 2006-07 at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, after which he received the MCh (Ortho) degree.
Earlier, Dr. Humayun Ali Shah served as Senior House Surgeon in the department of Orthopaedics of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital from August 1989 to December 1990. He later enrolled for the MS program at the same institution, during which time (1995-98) he served there as a postgraduate trainee.
