A heart specialist carries out tests to identify abnormal heart rhythms, blood vessel blockages and heart murmurs. He or she helps provide treatment to people with heart problems, or who have had heart failure or heart attack. Heart specialists also help people decide about placing stents, heart surgeries, and procedures like heart catheterization and angioplasty.

The cardiologist will go through your medical history in detail at your first visit. He/she will do an assessment of risk factors for coronary artery disease.
