Dr. Charuta received her degree in Ophthalmology from the renowned Aravind Eye Hospital and post graduate institute of Ophthalmology. She completed advanced training in the treatment of Cornea at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, consistently ranked as one of the top eye hospitals in India where she was also a Clinical and Surgical trainer. Thereafter she was trained at renowned Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Japan under Dr. Sotozono and Dr. Kinoshita in Regenerative Medicine solutions on Ocular Surface disorders namely Steven Johnson Syndrome, Chemical injuries and others and continues to work with them. She completed her residency and medical internship at Dr. V M Medical College.
Dr. Charuta is highly skilled in performing lamellar and full thickness corneal transplants (DSAEK, DMEK, DALK), mucous membrane and amniotic membrane grafts, minor salivary gland transplants, refractive surgeries PRK, LASIK, ICLs. She is dedicated to the health and function of ocular surface and is experienced in all latest technological advancements. Her special interests include management of Corneal Scars, Dry eyes, acute and chronic ocular manifestations of Stevens Johnson Syndrome, Cicatricial Pemphigoid and Chemical and Thermal injuries to the eye. She also devotes her time towards research in cell culture laboratory.
She has presented her work at several International and National ophthalmological conferences and is the author of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals including the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation.
She is Life member of Asia Cornea Society (ACS), American society for Cataract and Refractive surgeons, Cornea Society of India (CSI). She is a reviewer for British Journal of Ophthalmology, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and Optometry and Vision Science.
