Most commonest cause of acute pain in facial region is of dental origin. Differential diagnosis for facial pain include:

1. Dental cavity / Pulpitis

2. Dental sensitivity

3. Periodontal/gum disease/dental abscess

4. Pericoronitis- related to erupting tooth

5. Dry socket- after extraction pain

6. Cracked tooth- pain on chewing

7. Premature contact- with recent cap/crown and bridge

8. Maxillary sinusitis

9. Salivary stone

10. Temporomandibular joint and Masticatory muscle pain

11. Neuropathic pain 

a) Trigeminal neuralgia 

b) Burning mouth syndrome 

c) Post herpetic neuralgia 

d) Atypical dental pain 

12. Oral ulcer/Oral cancer

13. Migraine

14. Sometime heart pain may radiate to left side of jaw and face

15. Eye pain-need to consult ophthalmologist 

Don't neglect these type of pain which may indicate severe underlying disease.
