What are the Reasons for Experiencing Sharp Pain during Pregnancy?

During pregnancy, women experience sharp, stabbing pain in the groin orabdomen area and the uterus. At times this pain can be very uncomfortable; however, it is quite normal during pregnancy. Here are some common reasons which cause pain during pregnancy:

  • Bloating and Gas: During pregnancy, your digestive system doesn’t work as smoothly as it should be. As a result, you would experience indigestion which would lead to bloating and gas. This can cause severe pain in your upper and lower abdomen area.

  • Cramping: During this phase, you uterus tends to expand. This can cause severe pain due to the cramping, which is a very common phenomenon during the period of pregnancy.

  • Constipation: Constipation is another very common occurrence during pregnancy. As mentioned, during this period your digestive system is not at its best. This leads to constipation which again causes severe pain in the abdominal section.

  • Round Ligament Pain: This pain usually occurs during the phase of the second trimester. It causes severe pain in the abdominal area. It is due to the stretching of the ligaments, which is responsible for supporting the uterus and its growth.
