It helps in reducing the over-activity of a particular muscle and helps in facilitating an under-active muscle which helps the patient in sustaining the results that he gets after a a physiotherapy session. It is applied on the Skin but the effect is there till bone through the fascial interconnections.These tapes are helpful in reducing swelling around a particular area and are also used for scar removal.
These tapes allows a safe return to play after ankle sprain , Tennis elbow, Golfers elbow, Hamstring injuries Muscle strain, Patellar Tendonitis, Achillies Tendonitis, Plantar Fascitis etc. without limiting any movement of the athlete.
Sometimes patient feels better after physiotherapy session but when he resumes his routine activities he comes back with the same presentation to clinic on next visit, this can be taken care by use of these tapes.
These tapes are water resistant so individual can take shower without any hesitance. Other tapes generally loose stickiness with sweat but these tapes adheres better with increased temperature around that area.
Dosage of tape
Yes kinesiotaping has a dosage like you have dosage of medicines, dosage in taping is there in terms of percentage of stretch. Direction of application also changes the effect of these tapes. So they are different from bandages so it is advisable to get this treatment from your Physio only.
Safety
It is better to shave the area before getting the treatment but in emergency situations this can be applied in hairs as well but then we need to remove the tape safely to avoid any boils(hair pull).
Removal of tape
If you are removing the tape put some oil around that area of tape this will allow a smooth removal of tape without pulling the hairs.
