Farting is a natural process and is extremely healthy . On an average, 5 to 10 farts per day are normal and women fart just as much as men. farts are indicative of intestinal gas which is suggestive of healthy gut bacteria which are a normal part of our intestines. These bacteria carry out a lot of functions like digestion, synthesis of vitamins, adding to immunity and maintaining normal stool consistency. However, a lot of foods can lead to excessive flatulence like beans, dairy products, sweet potatoes, oats, nuts, soy, and wheat and most of them contain complex carbohydrates.

Smelly farts indicate that you are consuming a good amount of food containing sulfuric compounds, including hydrogen sulfide and methanethiol, or methyl mercaptan. If farting gets disruptive to someone's life, this could be a sign of gastrointestinal diseases like bacterial overgrowth, Crohn's disease, diverticulosis, celiac disease, food allergies or intolerance. Excessive farting should be evaluated by a gastro specialist. You might require an endoscopy or a colonoscopy with biopsies.

Till then, happy farting!
