“If you propose to speak, always ask yourself, is it true, is it necessary, is it kind.” ~Buddha

This beautiful saying also holds true when you speak to yourself. Why cloud yourself with negative thoughts? Why not be true and kind to yourself? After all, you spend more time talking to yourself than talking to others around you. Trimming off just a few negative elements can bring about a new wave of positivity and confidence.

Here are 5 things you need to stop saying to yourself, right away!

  • It hurts too much.

“Pain is just fear leaving the body”

Pain, be it physical or emotional, is relative. An athlete will still fight like a warrior after receiving 100 blows to his body. A successful businessman will keep himself together even after having a series of traumatic experiences. These people are just as human as you are. It’s completely okay to feel hurt, to experience pain. But what makes you a strong human is how fast you can recover. Isn’t it true that every time we recover from a hurtful event, we think ‘What was I even thinking? Why did I waste so much time grieving over it?

’Remember: No pain is big enough to break you down completely. If it doesn’t kill you, it only makes you stronger.

  • I know the answer will be a NO.

No, you don’t. Endless opportunities have been lost, endless love stories have been left incomplete, endless dreams have been shattered based on this assumption. Even if you are very confident that you will face rejection, you have no confirmation. This is simply because of our tendency to assume what the recipient might be thinking of you.

Remember: The biggest failure you can have in life is making the mistake of never trying at all.

  • If I fail, I’ll be embarrassed. If I don’t try, I won’t fail.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe you are completely wrong. You have already failed if you haven’t tried. ‘I can’t’ and ‘I won’t’ are two completely different things. ‘I can’t’ means that there is literally no way in the world you can give up something. But “I won’t” means that you can but don’t want too, which simply translates to being responsible. Don’t stop yourself at ‘I can’t’. It’s always worth a shot, isn’t it?

Remember: If you don’t try, you’ll never know. If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never get it. And if you never ask for it, the answer will always be a NO.

  • I’m such a mess.

Things in your life might not be sailing the way you want them to be. Maybe the steering wheel is not firmly gripped in your hands. But that doesn’t mean your life is out of your control? And even if you believe it is, who else is going to take the wheel for you? Stop victimizing yourself, and take control. It is usually the decisions we take that land us where we are. You are only a mess as long as you don’t take ownership of it.

Remember: Don’t be addicted to your own self-destruction.

  • It must be easy for them. It’s too hard for me.

True. But have you ever asked yourself why? Why it’s easy for them and hard for you? The answer is Persistence, Experience and Hard Work. They have come a long way, doing it over and over again, to make it look easy for others. If you feel it’s too late for you to start, then no, it isn’t. Colonel Sanders, best known for KFC, became a billionaire at the age of 88. What’s stopping you then?

Remember: Endurance is the price tag of achievement.
