Do you feel like your nose is always stuffy, you are coughing frequently, and your face hurts?

You could be suffering from sinusitis. Do not worry, although a serious-sounding name, it is a fairly common condition and easily treatable.

Let’s find out more about sinusitis.

What is Sinusitis?

Sinusitis is an inflammation (redness and swelling) of the tissue lining your sinuses (air-filled spaces located behind your eyes, forehead, nasal bones, and cheeks).

Sinuses make mucus, which keeps the inside of your nose moist and protects against allergens and pollutants.

How is Sinusitis Caused?

Sinuses in a healthy state are filled with air. Sometimes, fluid build-up in the sinuses allows microbes to grow there, resulting in an infection. Sinusitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection.

What Are The Symptoms of Sinusitis?

The common symptoms of sinusitis are:

  • Stuffy nose (when your nasal passage is swollen with excess fluid and mucus)

  • Restricted breathing through your nose

  • Mucus dripping down the throat (post-nasal drip)

  • Persistent cough

  • Facial pain or pressure

  • Heaviness in the head

  • Pain in and around the eyebrows

  • Reduced sense of smell and taste

  • Fever

  • Bad breath

  • Pain in the jaws and toothache

How do You Get Quick Relief From Sinusitis?

Acupressure, a traditional medical practice, makes use of the application of pressure on specific areas of your body to promote blood circulation and help release muscle tension. It may help mucus drain from your sinuses and relieve sinusitis symptoms.

The space between your eyebrows and the area on both sides of the base of your nose are known to be pressure points for sinus relief.

This 3-minute technique helps drain all the fluid collected at the back of your throat, thus relieving sinusitis pain immediately.

It is a DIY technique (do-it-yourself) that can be done anywhere and anytime, without any special equipment or arrangement.

Let’s see the steps of the technique.

Step 1: Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and breathe deeply. Bring the index and thumb fingers of one hand together in the “pinch” position.

Step 2: Bring the hand to your face and hold the skin between your eyebrows firmly for 3 minutes.

Step 3: Release the area between your eyebrows after 3 minutes. Keep the index, middle, and ring finger of each hand below the eye and at the start of your cheeks.

Step 4: While applying firm and deep pressure, drag your fingers downwards till the end of your cheeks. Repeat this exercise several times a day based on your condition.

This technique may help relieve the nasal symptoms of sinusitis. However, if you have persistent pain, breathing difficulties, or any worsening symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
