Bad breath is just an embarrassing thing, it can make social situations uncomfortable. There are many causes of bad breath but did you know that certain foods can keep your mouth fresh?

When you think about it, the mouth is a home for more than 600 kinds of bacteria on an average. Many produce smelly gases as they digest the tiny food particles lodged between your teeth and on your tongue. Some of the most offensive gases produced by mouth bacteria are sulphur compounds, which are formed during the breakdown of proteins.

If you have bad breath, the first thing to do is brush and floss regularly. If you don’t have an underlying illness such as tonsillitis and brushing and flossing just isn't doing the trick, then make sure to do your best and figure out what’s causing the bad breath , dry mouth? Excess bacteria?.  So you know how to nip it right in the bud.

Here are some of the tips you can use to beat the bad breath. Not only does it keep your mouth smelling good, but it also keeps you away from munching on junk food, which is a major reason for both bad breath and weight gain .

  1. Natural tooth brushes
  2. Whenever you need a quick “brush up” but don’t have the chance to go grab your toothbrush, try snacking on any of the following foods. They not only kill bacteria, but are naturally fibrous enough to -“scrub” your teeth.

Apples: The high fibre content plus the encouraging of saliva production makes apples one of the top natural toothbrushes out there.

Celery: Firm and crisp, these veggies “brush” your teeth and also have a high moisture content to help keep your whistle wet. Celery may help to prevent bad breath because it is a fiber-rich food that causes increased saliva production. Saliva helps wash away food particles

Carrots, Lettuce : Firm and crisp, these veggies “brush” your teeth and also have a high moisture content to help keep your whistle wet

  3. Natural acid balancers
  4. Yoghurt:  the active cultures in yoghurt compete with the bacteria in your mouth that contribute to bad breath. Eat a cup of plain yoghurt with active cultures and make sure to avoid varieties with added sugars.

  5. Natural cleansers
  6. Water: Drink water often. Most odour-causing bacteria are anaerobic, meaning they thrive in a dry mouth. Therefore, drinking water helps flush out food particles and bacteria stuck in your mouth. Drinking water also promotes the production of saliva, which acts as a cleansing agent.

  7. Wonder drink
  8. Green Tea: It can help beat bad breath, the antioxidants in the tea, called polyphones, destroy a number of compounds in the mouth that can lead to bad breath, tooth decay and even mouth cancer.

Carry these power packed natural munches instead of junk food, they not only make you smell good at the same time they maintain your overall general health.
