Today, I am going to speak on the benefits and side effects on various eatables which we all have been taking since ages. However, they can benefit us on one hand and affect us on another. I wish to tell everybody that a simple lifestyle and little change in your food habits can do wonders for one's health.

1. Tamarind:

In ancient times, many believed that the tamarind can be used to cure stomach discomfort, fever, aiding digestion, and has a laxative effect. However, later it was found in the research that the usage of tamarind in curing the above health issues was surprisingly worsening the situation. Further, it was found that it can lead to dry eyes, constipation, cold, fever, can create problems in liver and gallbladder, the stomach disorders, pregnancy-related nausea, intestinal worms etc.

Conclusion:

If we compare the ancient thought with present time research, it is difficult to tell that which one is wrong and which one is right. However, Ayurveda says that Tamarind is highly acidic. As per the central concept of Ayurvedic medicinal theory the health prevails when there is a proper balance between three fundamental bio – elements/doshas of a body which are called as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. So tamarind comes under the category of  Pitta that means it is acidic. Hence, we should always be careful in using tamarind in our daily diet.

2. Brinjal or Eggplant:

Benefits of eating Eggplants (Brinjal):

Like most fruits and vegetables, brinjal too is great for your heart. Being rich in fibre, potassium, vitamin B-6 and phytonutrients like flavonoids, this vegetable lowers the risk of heart disease. The presence of antioxidants keeps your arteries healthy and prevents the heart attack.

Side effects of eating too many Eggplants (Brinjal):

  • Can stimulate menstruation
  • May lead to abortion
  • May cause acidic problems
  • Can cause allergic reactions
  • May contain nicotine
  • Too much potassium and fibres are bad
  • Can cause spinach poisoning
  • Interfere with antidepressant drugs
  • May give false positive result in carcinoid tumours test

Conclusion:

If we observe, we can come to the conclusion that the benefits of eating eggplants/ brinjal are minimal and the side effects are countless. So, we should be careful in taking the brinjal in a day-to-day diet. It comes in the category of Kapha according to the Ayurveda.

3. Beans:

Benefits of eating Beans:

Beans are the best source of protein, especially when compared to the fresh meat. Apart from being rich in proteins, it is also good in getting complex carbs and fibre. Beans contain a powerhouse of nutrients including antioxidants, and vitamins and minerals, such as copper, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium.

Side effects of eating beans:

Beans are good for the health and have many benefits. However, eating too much of them can also cause uneasiness and indigestion. Side effects of beans include flatulence and constipation. As beans contain a lot of dietary fibre, it makes it harder to digest and can cause painful cramping and even constipation.

Conclusion:

So, you can see that every vegetable which is being discussed today has a negative effect on our body besides being good in providing some of the important nutrients to the body.

As per the Ayurveda theory, these three Doshas can take one’s life (Prana) so it is better that one should avoid eating those food items on a regular basis which belongs to these three Doshas. If we consume them in a larger quantity then it can prove to be a poison to our body.

Since ages, it is known for its therapeutic property. Lemon is helpful to strengthen your immune system, cleanse your stomach, and it is considered as a blood purifier also. Lemon juice, especially, has several health benefits associated with it. It is well known as a useful treatment for kidney stones, reducing strokes and lowering body temperature. As a refreshing drink, lemonade helps you to stay calm and cool. Lemon is a fruit that contains flavonoids, which are composites that contain antioxidant and cancer-fighting properties. It helps to prevent diabetes, constipation, high blood pressure, fever, indigestion and many other problems, as well as improving the skin, hair, and teeth. Studies conducted at the American Urological Association highlight the fact that lemonade or lemon juice can eliminate the occurrence of kidney stones by forming urinary citrate, which prevents the formation of crystals. People use lemon to make lemonade by mixing lemon juice and water. Many people also use lemon as a washing agent, because of its ability to remove stains. The scent of lemons can also repel mosquitoes, while drinking lemon juice with olive oil helps to get rid of gallstones. Side effects of lemon:

Side effects of lemon: Consuming too many acidic foods or beverages, such as lemon water which results in extensive contact of acid with your teeth can lead to tooth erosion. It also can cause heartburn, GERD and Ulcers. Also, it can upset stomach and result in frequent urination and dehydration. It can also raise problems in kidney or Gallbladder. The consumption of too much lemon can result in a reduction of Wax Coatings on the knees.

Note: If one doesn’t consume the lemon in a proper way then the above side effects are bound to happen. Many people complain about gas acidity after consuming lemon. So, the question arises how to take a lemon in a proper way? I observed that the best way to take lemon is to take it with the hot water and rock Salt. If taken with the hot water, its acidic value dissipates and it changes its form from 'A citrate' to 'Amino acid'. A citrate which is a derivative of citric acid; that is, the salts, esters, and the polyatomic anion found in solution. An example of the former, a salt is trisodium citrate; an ester is triethyl citrate. When part of a salt, the formula of the citrate ion is written as C6H5O73− or C3H5O(COO)33. Here I am not able to put proper figure but it changes to an amino acid which is very good for our digestion muscle formation.

Benefits of Rock Salt:

The other name of Rock salt is Sendha namak. It is also called ‘Saindhav Lavan’ as per the Ayurvedic Sanskrit. Saindhav Lavan is one among 5 salts described by Ayurveda. It is also known as “Halite”, which is a mineral of Sodium chloride. Rock salt supplies minerals which are required by our body. There is no Side effect of rock salt as such. It is a healthy substitute of common salt as it is rich in minerals and does not pose health problems like high blood pressure, puffiness in the body or eyes. It facilitates the cellular absorption of minerals. It plays an important role in replenishing the body’s electrolytes and maintaining the pH balance. By stimulating blood circulation and mineral balance it removes toxic minerals and refined salt deposits. It stabilizes blood pressure by maintaining a balance of high and low blood pressures. It aids in digestion and is prescribed for laxative and digestive disorders. It improves appetite, removes gas and soothes heartburn. I have shared the knowledge of hot water, lemon and rock salt. I request you all to follow this in your lifestyle and observe the changes in your body. If you consume it regularly then you will see the marvellous changes in 15 days or so.
