As per Wikipedia, “A medical emergency is an acute injury or illness that poses an immediate risk to a person’s life or long-term health, sometimes referred to as a situation risking “life or limb.” So, when the situation is this, it requires instant action in order to mitigate the damages.

For many, it can be a confusing situation. A medical emergency can be a fire, a road accident, or even natural causes like a stroke or heart attack. So, how do we deal with such emergencies? Let’s look at some points which might help you in such a situation:

Stay Calm

Once your panic mode is on, you will barely be able to do anything. So, first, take a deep breathe and think of the best way to deal with the situation. If it’s a fire, call the firemen, and so on. The next steps you need to take are mentioned below.

First Aid

If the victims of the situation can be given first aid, you must do so. If someone has drowned or is unable to breathe, give them CPR. Wounds and other physical attributes should be dealt with accordingly.

Call an Ambulance

Next thing you need to do is to call an ambulance. Even if you don’t know the victim and don’t know what else to do, do a favour to them by calling an ambulance at the site. If it is an accident, you can also call the police to take on from there.

Call relatives of the victims

Next, if you can get some contacts from the victim’s phone of diary, call their relatives. You should preferably call them directly to the hospital you are taking the victim to.

Choosing a Hospital

Choosing the hospital is one of the most important jobs. Make sure the hospital caters to emergency patients and has an ICU to accommodate the patient. As the patient is critical, he/she will need these services and moving to other hospitals at a crucial time like this can be life-threatening.

Remember that if you help someone today, someone might come forward to help you or your dear people tomorrow. Always volunteer to help people in distress, especially in a medical emergency.
