THE ULTIMATE BEAUTY~ ROOPAM~ GUNAM~ VAYASTYAG

“We are so arbitrary about what is attractive and what is a disfigurement,” “Mole above the lip? Awesome. On the chin or nose or eyelid? Gross. Wide space between your two front teeth on a low-income woman in rural America? Gross. On a European supermodel? Fabulous.”

Perception is everything. In a time when beauty is often equated, in many cultures and especially in teen age group of people with a "fair" complexion or a fashionably thin figure or the shape of the nose, it is interesting to look back to a time when beauty was defined as a comprehensive attribute and that beauty was within every one's reach.

Ayurveda, the most ancient healing system of India, has a unique perspective on beauty.

II ROOPAM GUNAM VAYASTYAG, SHUBANGA SOUNDARYA KARNAM II

Roopam is characterized by radiant skin, shiny hair, sparkling eyes, etc. Roopam is unrelated to body size, skin, hair, or eye color, and is a direct reflection of good health. Roopam, our outer beauty is categorized into two types; Chhaya, and Prabha.

Chhaya refers to cosmetic beauty and the beautification techniques we use such as creams, lotions, herbs, paste etc.

Prabha is the specific radiance and natural vibrations coming from one's consciousness that reflects as outer beauty. Prabha is our true essence of beauty and radiance and enhancing it should be a priority before enhancing our Chhaya.

Gunam is the attribute of Mind and Spirit. A beautiful mind is well balanced in the TRI GUNAS- Sattva- Rajas - Tamas. The three gunas are the most subtle qualities of Nature that underlie matter, life and mind. Gunam reflects the beauty of our mind and soul and manifests itself as thoughts, actions and words. Our Gunam is governed by three main mental functions; dhi or learning, dhriti or retaining, and smriti or long-term memory and recall. A well disciplined mind that is coordinated with our senses and inner consciousness will indeed behave beautifully.

The everlasting beauty, is the Vayastyag, Vayastyag is focused on how we can look younger than our chronological age and is supported by both roopam and gunam beauty. Vayastyag in itself is a complete science of how to achieve lasting beauty through shri kamya rasayanas or skin rejuvenating regimes to slow down the ageing process and promote luster and beauty.

Premature Ageing in Ayurveda is caused due to an imbalance in doshas, dhatus and Agni, due to an erratic diet and lifestyle. The following things to do will help to maintain an  everlasting beauty :

1. Follow  A Daily Routine to bring a balance in the levels of Doshas - Dhatus and Malas (The Biological Humors and the Subtle Tissues)

2. Keep your Agni (Metabolic Fire) at an optimum level

3. Avoid excess of Pungent, Sour and Salt taste in your food. For they are responsible for the aggravation of Pitta in your body.

4. Excess of Pitta leads to premature greying of hair and also leads to various skin ailments.

5. Follow the Ayurveda Principles of Eating, Avoid Wrong Combinations of Food items

6. Do not follow any Food Fad or  External Cosmetic Therapies Blindly. There are no Shortcuts to Beauty

7. Do not Self Medicate

Rather than concentrating on just the external appearance, introspect your inner self, your health parameter which reflect the true beauty within you.
