But when it comes to ayurveda which is an ancient medical science of India has the proper cure for Ulcerative colitis.

Ayurveda is a trustworthy option to cure diseases without any side effects. It is an ancient Indian science which not only cures the diseases but also helps people live a life in a better way.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers in the colon or the large intestine or the rectum. This active disease has the main symptom of diarrhea mixed with blood. In ayurveda it is compared with Amajanyapaitik Raktatisaar. In Ayurveda Grahani and Agni have a significant role and are interdependent on each other. Grahani is described as a site of Agni by most of the Acharyas. When agni is manda it is called Mandagni. This mandagni is a root cause of Ama Dosha. This ama dosha is the crucial factor for the manifestation of the diseases. So when the manifestation of Ama occurs it weakens our digestive system and along with this vitiates tridoshas. As agni gets diminished in grahani and Aahar which we take doesn’t get digested properly due to mandagni. With mandagni, pitta is also aggravated and vitiated in this condition which causes the erosion of Intestinal, colon or rectal mucosa. This further leads to the formation of ulcers. This results in bloody diarrhea, the formation of mucus and colic pain.

According to Ayurveda, it can be correlated to the disease Amanjaya paitik Raktatisaar which shows the following symptoms.

  1. Purisha Ati Pravahan (Repeated defecation)
  2. Ati Drava Purusha Prakriti (watery stool)
  3. Udarashool (Pain in Abdomen)
  4. Picchila saphenayukt Purish (Sticky and frothy stool)
  5. Rakta Yukta Purisha (Stool mixed with blood)

After seeing all symptoms and knowing doshas involvement, Chikitsa (treatment) is planned accordingly. In the treatment of Amajanya paitik Raktatisaar main focus is done on the aggravated pitta and mandagni. In its chikitsa, pitta is pacified with the help of pitta sama naushad and mandagni is restored to its natural functions with pachan and deepanaushads with this grahiaushads and stambhan aushads are also included to avoid watery stools and to control the bleeding. When Pitta and agni return to their normal state of functions then Ama formation also stops. Ana (food) also starts to get digested properly and with subsidence of pitta dosha all the ulcers get healed which leads to proper bowel movement without any mucus and blood. Ayurvedic treatment significantly shows good results in bloody stools with stool and watery stools which are cardinal features of ulcerative colitis.
