We love everything about the winters, whether it is hot chocolate milk, endless parties and splendidly long evenings, but winter weather is not fun for skin due to cold atmosphere and low humidity which causes dry air and steals moisture away from the skin.

Also, stressful lifestyles, hectic work schedules, inadequate sleep, lack of nutritional diet, pollution, harmful sun rays, smoking, and alcohol are the major factors which make your skin dull and dry.

So, it is time to take extra care of our skin and follow basic routines to keep our skin glowing even in this chilly weather.

Tips to get glowing skin this winter:

  • Drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated. We tend to drink less water in the winter, but don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside out. You can also add fluids like herbal tea, coconut water, buttermilk, etc.
  • You are what you eat. Your skin will need care from inside too. Change your diet a bit in the winters. Include foods rich in Omega-3 fats like chia seeds, avocados, fish, walnuts, flax seeds, etc. Add fruits rich in Vitamin A, C and E to stay moisturized. Also include foods high in water content can help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Try watermelon, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and carrots.
  • Use hydrating serums rich with Vitamin C and Vitamin A along with moisturizers to keep the dewy look intact. Vitamin C hydrating serums help boost the production of collagen and protect it from pollution and Vitamin A helps with its anti-ageing properties. Moisturizer will prevent the skin from drying.
  • Exfoliate your skin once a week.  Exfoliation will help remove the dry and dead skin but do not be too rough on the skin. E.g. can choose almond or walnut face scrub once a week.
  • Exercise daily. It’s hard to leave the warmth and coziness of the blanket behind and get moving on a chilly winter morning. But do it if you love your skin.  Exercise will pump up your heart rate, which in turn, pumps more blood to your organs and skin.
  • Avoid bathing with hot and hot showers. instead use lukewarm water and moisturize immediately after shower to lock in the moisture.
  • Apply sunscreen daily. This is very important. No matter how foggy it is outside, don’t step out without applying the sunscreen.
