ORAL HYGIENE

Good oral hygiene is important. Poor oral health can lead to all sorts of problems like bad breath, difficulty in eating or drinking, gum inflammations or infections or dental problems (cavities, loosening of teeth, etc.). Good oral hygiene involves brushing teeth and tongue at least twice daily, flossing and regular dentist checkups. It’s also important to limit your consumption of sugary food and drink and avoid tobacco. The acids in some food and beverages can harm your dental health. They weaken tooth enamel, leaving teeth vulnerable to wear and sensitive to cold and heat.

Did you know that saliva helps protect tooth enamel against acidity?

BASICS FOR DENTAL HYGIENE:

- Always brush your teeth before sleeping at night. It’s essential to brush before bed to get rid of germs accumulated on tooth surface throughout the day.

- All surfaces of tooth must be covered while brushing. Brushing must be in a gentle manner. Excessive force while cleaning may remove the top most layer of your tooth.

- Use soft bristled toothbrush.

- Discard your tooth brush after every 3 months.

- Use fluoridated toothpaste.

- Mouthwash acts as an adjunct in cleaning your mouth. It cleans hard to brush areas in and around gums.

- Lessen sweet and acidic food.

- Drink enough water.

- Visit your dentist after every six months.

- Inform your dentist if you notice bleeding gums, ulcers, sensitivity to hot and cold.
