Degenerative Scoliosis is age related curvature of spine that develops due to disc degeneration. Its commonly seen in females after 50 years of age and presents with Back Pain with sometimes radiation in legs due to nerve compression. It's different from Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis which is seen in young patients, without any Back pain and Disc Degeneration. The pain is Mechanical in nature that is increses with activity and gets better with rest.MRI in these cases shows either anterolisthesis or lateral listhesis and Nerve compression. Treatment of Degenerative Scoliosis is initially conservative with Lumbosacralbelt, Analgesics, Pregabalin Physiotherapy and Excercises. A few patients need Epidural Block or Selective Nerve Root Block for the Sciaica like pain. Patients with symptoms not responding to these measures may require surgery. Surgery may be Decompression alone, Limited fusion or Deformity correction.
