One theory suggests that the antigens produced by the micro organism that are present in the small intestine, make entry into the vermiform appendix. The entering antigens are countered by the lymphoid tissues present in the appendix to produce antibodies.So when such antigens proliferate in the body, the readily available antibodies are released in large quantity to defend the body. So in effect this theory suggest that the appendix plays a vital role in body immune system.
