In addition, he has had considerable exposure to ocular pathology and pharmacology laboratory procedures, Humphrey visual field evaluation and Goldman perimetry, ocular pachymetry and corneal topographic evaluation. He is also familiar with videokeratography and orbs can, refractive surgery and biometry workup. He has worked extensively on lasers and cryotherapy which include YAG-PI, YAG capsulotomy, retinal photocoagulation (focal, grid, full & sectoral scatter), laser indirect ophthalmoscopy, TTT, PDT and retinal cryotherapy.Dr Vashisht's surgical experience includes performing phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia, buckling surgery, pars plana vitrectomy, vitreoretinal surgeries for complicated retinal detachment, macular hole surgery and managing trauma cases including IOFB and endophthalmitis.Besides his clinical expertise, Dr Vashisht has been actively involved in research studies, and several of his co-authored papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals or presented as posters or podium presentations at medical conferences. He has also bagged awards for his efforts and is a distinguished member of many associations linked to ophthalmology. A: Yes, ophthalmologists can perform surgery as they tend to have years of training and experience. Many ophthalmologists obtain subspecialty training in areas like eyelid surgery, retinal surgery or pediatric surgery. Others perform surgery based on requirements of the local hospitals or surgical centres.

Q: How can an Ophthalmologist help for Cataract?

A: Ophthalmologists initially perform eye exams like slit-lamp exam, retinal exam, and visual acuity test. Once cataract is diagnosed, there are certain steps that the patient should follow. Cataract can be removed only with surgery. During surgery, the eye’s natural cloudy lens is replaced by an artificial lens by the surgeon, thus resolving the issue.

Q: Should one visit an Ophthalmologist for contact lenses?

A: An ophthalmologist can indeed prescribe contact lenses. Even optometrists can prescribe contact lenses and hence it is not necessary that one should visit an ophthalmologist only. Both of them can perform eye exams for the same and the patient can visit either of them
