Consulted Dr. Anshuman Kaushal (Bariatric Surgeon) for Gall Bladder Surgery
I do not recommend the doctor
At Artemis. Gave a CBD injury to my 65 year old father . Refused to acknowledge early warning symptoms of excruciating pain post surgery and abdominal swelling.
Wasted time defending himself once internal medicine department stated that my father was in a septic shock and his organs were failing . Did a CT scan for abdomen 8 hours after sepsis set in. Did not agree with other doctors that a 5 ml fluid visible in gall bladder fossa was in fact bile .
Next day he called me and said we have done everything but there is no problem , anything can happen and we have to wait 72 hours .
My friend who is also a doctor in same hospital requested her head of department to intervene at this stage and he forced dr Kaushal to analyse the visible fluid . It was bile and it was understood that his staples of the duct inside had blown open and bile was leaking . The doctor did not accept that it was due to an injury but just said it can happen .
He was operated immediately by dr Kaushal again and in presence of other doctors I requested . But his lungs and kidneys had already been severely damaged and he was on ventilator .
Being a strong man he recovered but he spent another month in the hospital where the same doctor gave him pancreatitis and also an intestinal fistula which is caused by injuring the intenstines with the drain .
It's only a miracle my father survived. Dr Kaushal not even once admitted any mistake . Where as whole hospital knew it was his mistake . He was very rude when I demanded certain tests before I leave the hospital . He wanted to get rid of my father from the hospital even when he couldn't walk because he was taking flak from hospital management . Very unprofessional . My father forgave him . Maybe some day I will also . Maybe I won't
Dr. Anshuman Kaushal replied
Hope your father is doing well . It was quite unfortunate that he had post operative complication after being operated for mirrizi's syndrome. I admire him for his resilience and extremely cordial nature throughout his stay . I do appreciate your mom as well , who bravely endured the tough times.
It was quite disheartening to read the story above, which you decided to write after half a year. I believe that you are aware of the fact that every procedure has certain inherent risks involved. It's not the complication but the ability to take corrective action which defines a surgeon. I withhold his discharge next day as I was not comfortable, did all necessary investigation and took him for second surgery the minute it was deemed necessary, remember?
Through out the hospitalization , your father received best of the treatment and I hope you remember how I answered all your queries every now and then, including odd hours. You were very appreciative then.
You decided to continue the treatment under my care despite having the option of various other hospitals .
Please understand , a nonmedico can not DEMAND any test. It is only the doctors prerogative to logically advise investigations.
Also , I advised your father to be discharged once he got better as recovery is much faster at home environment and also chance of infection is less.
Plus, he was also quite keen to go home. You did not want that , why?
At no point , you or any of your family member complained of me being rude . Why you didn't mentioned it then , Mr Kashif? We used to meet and talk on daily basis.
In fact , I saw him in followup visits and always had a very amicable meeting every time.
No I did not received any flak from any where.
Nobody intervened or forced me to do anything. Who told you these false stories??
And Finally, please pay my respect to your parents. Hope they are doing well.
I always pray to almighty to give me knowledge and skill to treat my patients, whom I consider my extended family.
