He earned his medical degree from the University of Madras in 1989 and completed his postgraduate training in General Surgery in the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. In 1993, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2003.
