Professor Sota has been ex-President of the Delhi Ophthalmological Society, as well as Vice President of the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness (NSPB), President of the Indian Contact Lens Society, and Chairman (Academic & Research Committee) of the All India Ophthalmological Society for six years. He has received various awards and honours including the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award from the Medical Council of India given by the President of India, Gold Medal from the Indian Contact Lens Society, and the Dr. P.K. Jain Oration Award from the Delhi Ophthalmological Society.
