I read up online about the side effects on chemo on the mouth ulcers and the high risk of infection, especially in the teeth, and I decided to ask my dad to go to his dentist with me. We reached there and Dr. Manju first said she wished we had told her on the phone this is what the appointment was about as she would need to research it - not ideal for me as a patient to hear this, but OK, perhaps she doesnt see cases like this. Then my dad told her he was having some trouble with one of his teeth. So she started examining him. At this point, she opened her appointment diary, took a mask from it (not sure whether it was new mask that she chooses to keep there, or a mask she reuses). She wore it and examined my dad. The mask was covering her mouth and not her nose. Then she sneezed in the room. I told her that I'd appreciate if she would cover her nose fully with the mask as my dad is weak and his immunity is low and he is going to start chemo treatment which will further lower his WBC and I didnt want him to catch any cold/cough. She smirked at my idea, and did not cover her nose, instead asked her assistant to turn off the fan. And then she sneezed again. If this is the importance a doctor has towards precaution and respect for their patients even after they request her to cover her nose with the mask, I dont think she is the right dentist for my dad, who is bound to be weak from the chemo. She may be a good dentist, but I definitely expected a better response than this - this is not acceptable to me. I cant trust her to take care of my parents with this attitude. more..
