Consider starting with a moderate dose of zinc supplement (such as zinc gluconate 20-40 mg elemental zinc per day) and a vitamin D3 supplement (usually cholecalciferol 2000 IU daily or as per recent vitamin D levels). For tablets, options include “Zincovit,” “Zinconia,” or “Limcee plus” for zinc, and “D3 MUST,” “Shelcal D 1000,” or “Uprise D3 60K” (weekly for 8 weeks if levels are low) for vitamin D. Take zinc supplements at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after fiber-rich meals to enhance absorption. Avoid over-supplementation, as high zinc can inhibit copper absorption and have gastrointestinal side effects.
Next Steps
Get serum zinc and 25(OH) vitamin D levels checked to target therapy and prevent overdose. Consult a healthcare provider or nutritionist for a comprehensive assessment, especially if symptoms persist or worsen. Address dietary factors: balance fiber intake, include nuts, seeds, lean meats, and fortified foods.
Health Tips
Overuse of zinc (>40mg/day) can cause toxicity; stick to recommended doses. Vitamin D toxicity is rare but possible with high doses; regular monitoring is advised. If digestive issues persist, rule out malabsorption syndromes (like celiac disease or IBD) with your physician.
