Weight Loss
I have six months until my wedding and I have to lose around 7-9kgs by then. I used to work out everyday for 1-2 hours and was healthily fit with a balanced diet all my life until I started my corporate job a year ago. This last year has been mostly me sitting at my desk for 12 hours and sleeping. Apart from me going back to working out - because of my work lifestyle, 1. Is losing around 9kgs possible in due time? 2. If so are there any OTC medicines to help me feel full, help reduce appetite? 3. which doctor should I consult for a prescribed course?

Yes, losing 7–9 kg in 6 months is possible with the correct diet and exercise. To lose weight you need to follow a calorie-deficit diet. Here are some tips to follow to lose weight:   -  Including complex carbohydrates like whole grains, millets, and oats.    - Include protein in every meal, like dals, tofu, sattu, and paneer.  - Include green vegetables and fruits for fiber intake.   - Incorporate healthy fats from nuts, seeds, and avocados.   - Limit sugar, fried items, bakery products, packaged and processed foods.   - Eat small, frequent meals to avoid overeating at one meal.   - Along with diet, it is also important to have an exercise routine.  As a dietitian, I do not recommend OTC medications to lose weight as they might have harmful effects on your body, as you may have low energy levels, digestive issues and nutritional deficiencies.

Hii you can achieve your target weight within the desired time. Focus on calorie deficit and mindful eating. This can be done naturally with diet so don't opt for any appetite suppression medicine. Sedentary lifestyle can lead to fat deposition. But office goers and night shift people can lose weight easily with proper dietary approach. Targeted weight loss is 3-4kg a month and 0.5kg to 1 week per week.

Yes, losing 7–9 kg over 6 months is realistic and healthy, with about 1–1.5 kg per month of gradual, sustainable weight loss. Resuming a consistent exercise routine and following a personalized, calorie-controlled diet will help. Over-the-counter appetite suppressants are not recommended due to possible side effects and poor long-term outcomes. Instead, strategies like higher fiber intake, good hydration, and balanced protein can naturally manage hunger.
