Type 1 diabetes
On 20th march 2017 he was diagonised with diabetes as is sugar levels were high 590. His hb1ac was 10.2 %. He is on insulin since then. How do we make sure wheter it is type 1 diabetes or there may be some infection in his pancreas or any other reason which is making the sugar level to spike. Here in my town the doctors claim it to be type 1 but they havent done any physical test for seeing pancreas. Please suggest what should we do. If it is type 1...is there any safe cure??

Clinical examination will suggest if the diabetes is type 1 or type 2 or other secondary causes like pancreatic diabetes. Irrespective of the type of diabetes, the blood sugar is very high and needs insulin at present. After good control with insulin, testing for c-peptide and Usg pancreas will further categorise the type of diabetes.

At the age of 3 if sugars are that high then its juvenile diabetes or type1 or insulin dependent diabetes. In type 1 diabetes internal insulin production is absent so you can confirm it with fasting c peptide test ( c peptide is co product secreted by pancrease while secreting insulin so its low level confirms absense of insulin production) . You can also check GAD 65 antibodies for auto immunity but its little costly test ( 6-8k). At present there is no cure for type 1 and insulin injections or pump is only option for treatment.
