Tooth Sensitivity
I underwent flap surgery for bone losses and irritations. Post flap surgery, irritation is reduced. But not sensitivity. Its almost 20 days post surgery, but i am still sensitive to cold and hot. Even difficult drinking water and eat. I am using Rexidine gel on gums and mouthwash. Please suggest how do i get rid of this.

Tooth sensitivity is very common after flap surgery. Just dont forget to apply your tooth paste over sensitive areas and wait fpr 10-15 minutes before brushing it off. If it still persists please consult your dentist as there are other procedures which can be performed in clinic only.

Post flap surgery, sensitivity is a known complaint & the reason is exposed root surface.  this will last for few days & then gradually disappear.  but meanwhile you can use a antihyprersensitivity toothpaste like THERMOSEAL RA.. apply on the sensitive tooth surface, leave for 5mins & brush twice daily with this.  If your sensitivity doesn't reduce after a week pl visit your dentist. Hope this helps

Flap surgery sometimes leads to sensitive teeth. .prevention should be done with desensitising toothpastes like thermoseal and sequel F. . If still no relief then go for root coverage with a layer of filling. .In extreme sensitivity of a particular tooth go for RCT of the affected tooth. .

Hi,  this is side effect to the flap surgery. Consult your dentist again n get it checked once.  Healing process will take time,  keep applying that gel, For sensitive relief,  you can use desensitizing tooth paste like Thermoseal SA,   Vantage etc.  Apply thick layer over teeth n massage gently for  at least 15 min. You can use desensitizing mouthwash and sensigel also.  Flap surgery has many benefits in your oral hygiene, that is more important compared to sensitivity problem.  It will be cured soon.  Thanks

Post surgical tooth sensitivity is the most common side effect of flap surgery. Reason being, the gum infection(peridontitis) damages the gums, and surrounding bone of the teeth. Flap surgery attempts to repair this damge. In the healing process, the gums take a new position wherein the tooth roots may become exposed leading to sensitivity. But the benefits of doing flap surgery out weigh this small problem of sensitivity which is treatable. Precautions to be taken: avoid taking extreme hot or cold foods/drinks. Use a toothpaste meant for sensitivity two times daily ( available in stores- sensodyne repair n protect). A protective gel called ' sensigel' can be applied 2-3 times daily for 1month. Using a mouth wash sensitivity relief agents. Please visit your dentist again to get these products prescribed.

Hello, It is very common to experience sensitivity post flap surgery as the gingiva attaches at a lower level to the root. You can opt for good root coverage fillings and use desensitising pastes like colgate sensitive pro relief/desensitising mouth wash like senquel-AD,for 3-4 months to see the difference.Regards,Dr Suman Makam,Dental Arts,Bangalore,Jayanagar
