Hello practo user, your mother needs an OPG for diagnosis ,also need to check bp n blood sugar levels, severity of pain from dull ache to sharp shooting pain ,pls post the x ray for further diagnosis ,if there is no abnormalities detected in x ray ,then she might be having trigeminal neuralgia, for that you need to get her checked by an oral surgeon.

The first logical step is to take an x ray of the tooth and look for Cavities Gum disease Attrition of the tooth structure Also examine the tooth for any fracture lines. Pain mostly from the tooth will generally be sharp Pain from gums infection will be a dull pain.
Next Steps
Visit another dentist for an opinion
Health Tips
Avoid heat/hot beverages /hot water when there is tooth pain

there can be many possibilities, can be because of perhaps an impacted third molar, truma from occlussion, sinus issues etc.a good quality xray would have given a better clue.crosscheck it with another dentist and can take a cbct xray if required.

Pain in night especially on sleeping or lying down is a classical symptom of some infection in tooth.  Please get an xray done which will reveal which tooth has an infection & then accordingly some treatment can be provided. Most likely she might need Root canal in one of the tooth in her upper jaw.  but nothing in particular can be said without an xray.

Does she have any sensitivity to hot and cold in the same region?? And does pain subside when she gets up?? Do you have any xrays with you, if yes please share those xrays. If the problem is not in the teeth then the problem can be MPDS which is due to teeth clenching, tensions etc. Better visit a specialist for a thorugh examination once again.
