Bleeding from gums is a common sign of gum disease. Your gums must have weakened most probably because of plaque and calculus(tartar) accumulation. This causes the gums to bleed while brushing, eating etc.
Get a cleaning procedure(scaling) done. It can be easily done in a visit or two, depending on the severity of the gum disease. Your gums will gradually heal to a healthy state and the bleeding will stop.
