Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician.
I understand your concern stopping steroids like deflazacort can be worrisome, but your safety depends on the dose, duration, and tapering schedule
â Advices
⢠For short-term use (like your 3-week course), abrupt stopping is generally considered safe if the dose was not very high, though mild withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, body aches, or mild nausea may occur
⢠Take it easy, maintain hydration, and eat small meals to reduce acid reflux
⢠Monitor your body for any unusual symptoms in the next few days
What to Monitor
⢠Mild warning signs include fatigue, mild dizziness, body aches, or low-grade fever
⢠Note any return of your oral infection symptoms or worsening inflammation
Managment
For your course (6mg twice a day for 1 week, then 6mg once a day for 2 weeks), stopping after completion is usually safe, especially if you did not have prolonged high-dose steroids previously. There is minimal risk of serious adrenal insufficiency with this short-term regimen
When to Consult a Doctor Immediately
⢠Severe fatigue, dizziness, or fainting
⢠Persistent vomiting or abdominal pain
⢠Any sudden return or worsening of inflammation or infection
Every patientâs situation is unique. For accurate guidance and reassurance, itâs important to review your full medication history and symptoms
You can reach out to me directly for this case, and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation

Stopping Deflazacort after 3 weeks of short-term use is usually safe and doesn’t cause major withdrawal issues. Some people may feel mild fatigue or body ache for a few days. Take plenty of fluids and rest. Please consult me online if symptoms persist or worsen for further guidance. Hope this helps☺️
It’s okay to feel worried — let me clarify this for you.
Since you took Deflazacort 6 mg twice daily for a week and once daily for 2 weeks (total ≈ 3 weeks), stopping it abruptly is usually safe for most people because this duration is short and the dose moderate. However, a few individuals may experience mild steroid-withdrawal symptoms like fatigue, body pain, or mood changes. These are self-limiting.
The acid reflux you experienced is a known side effect of steroids — you did the right thing by stopping it if the discomfort was significant. You can take a PPI (like pantoprazole 40 mg before breakfast) for a few days to relieve acidity.
If you notice weakness, dizziness, or persistent symptoms, it’s better to review once so I can guide you on tapering or supportive medicines if needed.
