You are having onychomycosis i.e fungal infection of nail. The nail will go on becoming whitish or yellowish with rough surface and splits if not treated. Minor trauma may lead to secondary bacterial infection thus aggrevating your pain . Better to get it treated.

This appears to b a condition called Onychomycosis. It is a fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails that may involve any component of the nail unit, including the matrix, bed, or plate. Onychomycosis can cause pain, discomfort, and disfigurement and may produce serious physical and occupational limitations, as well as reducing quality of life. Consult a Dermatologist for the same.
