Sex during pregnancy?

During the 1st trimester of pregnancy i.e. 2nd month is it safe to have sex since no complications exist. Would use of a condom make any difference?

it is safe to have occasional sex in first trimester once the heart beat of the foetus has been documented. otherwise the second trimester is the safest for intercourse,  travelling etc. obviously condom is not needed for contraceptive purposes but  has a role in preventing STDs
