Severe pain after first sitting of RCT
I have my first sitting of RCT and was very much in pain after the sitting, in second sitting when doctor removed the dressing , she said there is pus which is now cleaned , that is why your were experiencing pain, now in second sitting, she has filled the canal with medicine to subsidise any infection, but again it is paining and even the adjacent teeths have started paining which were not paining before ( that is after first sitting) Doctor prescribed me combiflame, but it is doing no good to my pain. I want to ask is it normal to have this much pain? Just to mention pain is so severe it almost bring me in tears , today is 3rd day after the filling of medicine in root canal and pain is getting no less ,my doctor says let's wait and watch, but how long should I wait and watch with this severe pain? Please suggest

Pain is not that common after first sitting of rct ..but it depends on the severity of infection in the tooth..and also varies in every patient. You take your medicines properly including both painkillers and antibiotics.

It is rare to have continued severe pain after first sitting of root canal. Normally pain goes down almost by 90percent if not completely. But ensuring that the diagnosis was correct is important. Taking a second opinion just to make sure nothing else is missed in diagnosis, should be helpful. Sometimes being patient and religiously following your dentists instruction is the only way to go, including taking meds as prescribed, if any. Was there any swelling before the root canal started? Was pain the same or has it now increased? Do you have any Xray to share?

Virtually, a root canal treatment is pain free. However, in some cases of infection, some amount of pain is evitable. I understand that you are having severe pain and that is very rare with such a conservative treatment. I think you should ask your doctor to prescribe be some potent pain relievers like piroxicams or ketorolac along with antibiotics.
