Sensation & pain in PMT
Had filling for cavity in left upper PMT. While drilling cavity i felt shooting pain as well. Now past 3 days i feel sensation of hot - cold & pain while chewing specially chewingum. What to do. Did doctor drill my dental tissue excessively? What next i supposed to do

hello,
if you felt shooting pain while drilling the cavity, it is possible that there has been some injury to the nerve of the tooth. if yes, you need to go for root canal treatment of that tooth.

I need an x-ray. If the filling is not done properly, it needs to be redone under anaesthesia.If the cavity was deep , the tooth has to go for Root Canal Treatment.

if hot and cold senstivity is high then you may require rct for that tooth. but it can be diagnosed only when you come in.

If the pain isn't subsiding but actually increasing then possibility of a Rct is high. if its just a mild sensitivity to hot and cold then the dentist could redo the filling with another type of filling material.

Sensitivity to temperature and sweet can be due to inflammation of nerves inside the tooth...slight sensitivity can occur after filling for few days..if its not reducing get it checked..

Without seeing an X-ray or clinical observation it's difficult to comment as in what was done.
But yeah you can take a painkiller and wait for a week's time period....
Even then if it doesn't subside kindly go and get it checked again..

Your symptoms indicate of a deep cavity . You would probably need an RCT . Dentist would have not drilled it overzealous on purpose . We are suppose to remove the complete caries portion.

Usually shooting pain does not occur while drilling the cavity ...unless the cavity is little deep .I would suggest you to go for a single tooth xray and evaluate the reason for the sensation.If your cavity is deep ideally go for Rct if your symptoms refuse to wear off.If your cavity is not so deep according to the xray then probably you are experiencing post restorative sensitivity which happens most likely with composite fillings (white)...wait for a few weeks and see if settles down .All the best.

Hi, Probably the cavity is deep & hence sensation of hot & cold.X ray should be taken to evaluate the depth of the cavity & accordingly treatment should be done.

Hello,
If it is a deep filling and a composite filling is done you might face sensitivity for a few days.Get an IOPA x-ray done and upload it for further comments.

Need IOPA (X-ray) for confirmation of any complications, but in case of composite restoration sensitivity can occur for hot and cold, it might subsides within few day's. Get IOPA done and subsequent treatment.
