This is the best option to save the tooth. Never go for extraction because all the teeth are very important for us. So don't worry its safe treatment, you can go single sitting root canal treatment which can be done in a single sitting.

Root canal treatment based on the case is the best treatment for an infected tooth. The only other alternative is to remove the tooth. If a root canal is done properly then the tooth should last for a pretty decent period of time without causing any problems. Please remember that the supporting structure of a root canal treated tooth that is the gums, bone and the ligaments are as strong as any normal tooth. Tooth removal will lead to loss of tooth. An artificial tooth even an implant can never match your natural tooth.
Health Tips
it is better and cheaper to save a tooth rather than replacing one. always ask for an Endodontist to do your RCT

It is a very safe procedure if done by a qualified dentist...but in this question you have not mentioned the reason for getting the treatment..if it is due to an infection your only other option is extraction which is not a recommended treatment at your age..
Next Steps
get rct from a qualified dentist and get a crown if needed in your case
Health Tips
follow instructions of your dentist and take the prescribed medications

Hello, considering your age and assuming that the tooth could be saved by root canal treatment I would suggest you to go ahead with the same. There is no effective alternative for RCT except that u may push the treatment little further by popping pain killers but again not advisable unless in unavoidable circumstances. Trust your dentist and go ahead.

Hi Root canal is very safe procedure , provided it's done properly. Preferably by an endodontist. Removal of the tooth is the last resort in case there is no other option. If the teeth can be saved doing an RCT , it's better to go for it and it's completely safe Regards
