Right Foot Bone Fracture
I had a fracture of the 4th and 5th metatarsals of my right foot, treated with plaster for about 2 months. The cast was removed 1 month ago and the fracture is said to be healed. However, there is a visible bony bump on the foot with mild pain while walking and slight swelling, especially after prolonged walking. I would like to know if this is a normal healing change or if further evaluation or treatment is required.

After fractures of the 4th and 5th metatarsals, it is common to notice a bony bump (callus formation) at the healing site, especially in the first few months after cast removal. Mild pain and swelling after prolonged walking are also normal during the remodeling phase of bone healing. This usually settles gradually over 3–6 months as the bone strengthens and the callus smoothens. Supportive footwear and activity moderation help during this period. If pain increases, swelling becomes persistent, or walking remains difficult beyond a few months, a follow-up X-ray is advisable to reassess healing.
